Opposition

When we are trying to do something, whether big or small, we don’t like opposition. We set a goal, make a plan to reach that goal, and then start working the plan to reach the goal. We want everything to go smoothly. And then it hits – opposition. What do you do when things don’t go as planned? Do you scream, cuss, walk away, push it all down inside so your blood pressure goes through the roof? Do you look at others and ask, “how come they have life so easy?”
Here’s the thing, when Christians are doing God’s will, we will have opposition. You may say, “well what about so and so? Their life is so ideal.” I hate to say it, maybe it’s because they aren’t really doing what God is asking of them. Satan doesn’t oppose those who aren’t working for God. Rather, he works doubly hard against those who are trying to work for the furthering of the Kingdom.
In fact, when we do have opposition, and we know we are trying to work in God’s will, it is a form of confirmation that we are on the right track. We should be happy, let out a big sigh when we feel like quitting, and keep pushing forward. However, remember, we aren’t working alone. God is always with us. When you feel opposition during a time of working for God, it’s time to drop to your knees and pray. Know that as you pray for God’s help to overcome the opposition you are experiencing, He is right there with you, fighting your battle with you – for you. “The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble (Psalm 9:9).” Whatever, you are working on, don’t quit. Maybe it doesn’t come to completion in your time, but it will come to completion in God’s time.
Your fight for doing what God purposes for your life, is not only a battle on earth, but also in the spiritual realm. There really are two different worlds where the battle takes place, here on earth, and in the spirit world. We need to remember, that Satan has been allowed to wreak havoc in the earthly world for a time, but that he ultimately will lose the battle on both fronts, the earthly one and the spiritual one. John writes, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith (1 John 5:4).” This means, that when we are in the will of God, we will have victory. The opposition comes from this world, Satan, rather, but we need to have faith that God will overcome. The victory will come!
When we do meet our God-given goal, we have come out on the other side through opposition and won. It is really important, though, to know that it was God who brought about the completion and victory and not us. We need to make sure we are giving Him the glory and limelight, and not taking it for ourselves.
When forces are opposing your God-directed actions, yell “Yippee”, pray, and continue on. Your path has been confirmed!
