God is not relative. However, He deals with shades of gray. I for one, am grateful, because He is the one and only God that sees me inside and out. Thus – He deals with shades of gray. Because He made me and knows me intimately, He knows that I am a being of contradiction. I have good intentions, but because I’m not perfect, my intentions may not come to fruition. This is a human condition of even the most disciplined. Paul writes in Romans 7:14-24:
14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold into bondage to sin. 15 For I do not understand what I am doing; for I am not practicing what I want to do, but I do the very thing I hate. 16 However, if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law, that the Law is good. 17 But now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that good does not dwell in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. 20 But if I do the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. 22 For I joyfully agree with the law of God in the inner person, 23 but I see a different law in the parts of my body waging war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin, the law which is in my body’s parts. 24 Wretched man that I am!
Paul explains the gray of the human condition of Believers. We want to obey God instantly, do His will in all we do and think, and show the world who He is by our actions of love. However, sin gets in the way. This world of gray can become so frustrating when we are trying to live a holy life. It is especially frustrating if we are trying to glorify God in our actions. The fact of the matter is, we are not perfect because Satan is still roaming this world and evil comes into our lives every day. Even though Paul was frustrated at his inability to always do good, he knew the one and only way he could be perfect in God’s eyes.
…There is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are in accord with the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are in accord with the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace… Romans 8:1-6
The one thing we can do is to meditate on God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When we meditate on the Spirit, He will give us life and peace. In other words, we need to focus our thoughts and prayers on God. We need to get to know God as intimately as He knows us. God may not be seen today as a human being, but He will be found when we look for Him.
Once we accept Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit guides us into an intimate relationship with the Father. God will be found if we genuinely seek Him and get to know Him better.
…Seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:9
Even though God is Spirit, He wants to be found by His children – us. He wants to walk through life with us, blessing us and giving us a full life. When we seek God in our lives, our lives become so interesting. He opens up opportunities for us that our short-sightedness most often never even sees. The thing is, He then works through us in these opportunities, making sure we are never alone. We just need to be willing to get to know Him and follow in His footsteps.
Walking with God turns the shades of gray of our lives into brilliancy. The shades of gray become white as snow. As it is written in Isaiah 1:18,
…Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall become as white as snow…
Let’s not become depressed in the gloom of the shades of gray of our lives, but rather, praise the Son for making our sins white as snow. Let’s focus on getting to know the Father, Son and Holy Spirit more completely so that we can glorify Them and live the brilliant life.
