God – Time Maker

Ever stop to consider why a day has 24 hours, and a month 30 or 31 days (except for February)? Science tells us one day is approximately 24 hours because that it how long it takes for the earth to rotate once in regards to the position of the sun. There are about 30 days in a month because that is approximately how long it takes the moon to rotate around the earth. But who decided how long it would take the earth to rotate completely around and how long it would take the moon to rotate around the earth? God. He created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). But then, if we are paying attention, after God created the vegetation on the earth, He created the Sun, moon and stars.

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and they shall serve as signs and for seasons, and for days and years; and they shall serve as lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. (Genesis 1:14-19)

Think about this, God determined how long our days, months and years would be by creating the sun and the moon. In other words, He created time. Before He created the earth, moon, sun and stars, there was no time.

God not only created our earth, but He also created time as we know it, that is the concept of past, present and future. Since God is both working inside the time construct He created, and living outside of it in eternity, He is able to see all time and weave together events that will bring about His purposes.

Indeed, we see in Micah how God has given him the following prophecy concerning the Christ. Within this little statement, God has orchestrated Christ, from the line of Judah, to be born in Bethlehem. Micah states that Christ’s coming was known from before time began, from eternity. This is a perfect prophecy for showing God’s intervention through time to bring about events for His own purposes.

But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will come forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His times of coming forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity. (Micah 5:2).

According to Konig http://www.about-jesus.org/complete-chart-prophecies-jesus.htm, Jesus coming to earth for the first time fulfilled between 200-400 prophecies made in the Old Testament. This proves God is working throughout time.

All this begs the question, what are God’s purposes as He works through time? His desire is to save mankind from itself. When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden by listening to Satan, evil entered this world. Satan lied and continues to lie in the present to people so they will not know God and His desire to have a personal relationship with His creation – us. God entered into the construct of time He created when He sent His son Jesus to be the final holy sacrifice for our sins, so that we may live forever with Him when time on earth is at an end. At that time, we will be living in eternity, either with God in Heaven or in Hell with Satan.

It is comforting to know that the God who created time also created me. He knows me better than I know myself. He placed me in time right now as opposed to 100 years from now or 100 years earlier. He has a purpose for me being here right now. He has shown me how much He loves me and my over-arching purpose is to tell as many people as I can about Him – the one true God and how much He loves you.

Thank you God, for Your purpose for my life.
